Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Martin Kobler, welcomed the meeting of Iraqi political leaders of last Saturday at the initiative of Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC) leader, Sayed Ammar al-Hakim, attended by Vice-President Khoda’yir al-Khuza’e, Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki, Parliament Speaker Osama Al-Nijaifi, as well as several political, parliamentary and religious personalities.

A statement by UNAMI quoted Kobler as saying “Engaging in a candid and constructive dialogue among all Iraqi leaders is the only way to pull Iraq out of the current political crisis.”

“It is essential to keep the positive momentum of this reconciliation initiative,” the statement added.

“The UN has repeatedly called for and encouraged dialogue,” the statement continued, assuring that “Kobler expressed his hope that the meeting will lead to decisive and steadfast action to end political differences in the interest of Iraq and the Iraqi people.”
