Hakim, US official discuss political mobility in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, discussed with the US Assistant Secretary of State, Brett Mkourk, the developments of the events in the region and its ramifications on Iraq.

A statement by the SIIC’s media office cited “The US Assistant Secretary of State described, during meeting Hakim at the latter’s office, the recent initiative of Hakim which gathered the top officials at his office as brave step,” noting “Iraq urgently needs such initiatives for they helps ensure the success of the political process.”

Hakim pointed out during the meeting that “The symbolic meeting stressed the politician’s eagerness to back the political process ads get of the problems.”

“For his part, Mkourk hailed Hakim’s statesmanship, urging to continue holding such meetings among the political leaders,” according to the statement.

“The two sides discussed the regional events and their implications on Iraq as well,” the statement concluded.
