IHEC confirms inability for holding Kurdistan Region’s elections on time

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Independent High Electoral Committee announced that it is unable to hold the elections of Kurdistan Region in next September.

A statement by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan received by IraqiNews.com quoted one of the Commissioners of the IHEC, Sirwan Ahmed Rasheed, as saying “The IHEC did not receive any formal letter from Kurdistan Region over holding the local elections on the 21st of September where it does not have a law for the elections,” noting that “Concerning the parliamentary elections in Kurdistan Region, we were notified about the date for holding the elections by the Kurdish government, but it did not consult us about this date.”

“We are unable to hold the elections on time because the local elections in Nineveh and Anbar will be held soon,” he concluded.
