Egypt calls Iraq to protect Egyptian community in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Egyptian Foreign Ministry called Iraq to protect the Egyptian community in Iraq from any consequences over killing the Egyptian clergyman, Hassan Shahata.”

The spokesperson of the Egyptian FM stated in a press statement “The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Mohammed Omro, called his Iraqi counterpart where he requested to protect the Egyptian community and the Egyptian interests in Iraq after killing two Egyptian citizens due to Shahata’s murder.”

“Zebari assured to Omro that Iraq is adherent to provide security to the Egyptian community and the Egyptian interests in Iraq,” the spokesperson concluded.

Earlier, some Takfiri extremists attacked the house of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Hassan Shehata, where the sheikh and three of his followers were killed. The incident happened on June 23 when several hundred Takfiris attacked and surrounded the house in the village of Abu Mussalam near Cairo in Giza Province. Their bodies were then dragged into the streets by the extremist assailants. Takfiri extremists claim that only their interpretation of Islam is correct and believe that all other Muslims are infidels.
