IHEC: Elections of Kurdistan Region to be done in open-slate system

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Independent High Electoral Commission announced that the elections of the local governments of Kurdistan Region will be done in the open-slate system according to the law issued in 2009.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan quoted in a press statement received by IraqiNews.com the Director of the office of the IHEC in Erbil, Hindreen Mohammed, as saying “The IHEC has completed many procedures regarding the elections of Kurdistan Region and it is about to activate the elector’s records.”

“The preparations are being held to hold the elections of the local governments and the parliament on time,” he added.

“Changing the law of the elections requires many procedures such as changing the voting papers,” he concluded.

The elections of the local governments and the parliament of Kurdistan Region are scheduled to be held in September 2013.
