Barzani, political sides discuss extending his term

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The President of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, discussed with the political blocs that are not participating in the parliament of Kurdistan Region, the decision over extending his term and the term of the parliament of Kurdistan Region.

Earlier, the parliament of Kurdistan Region extended the term of the President of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, for two years after the end of his current term in addition to extending the term of the parliament till the 1st of November 2013.

A statement by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan received by IraqiNews.com quoted the head of the Kurdistani bloc, Suzan Shihab, as saying “According to these two laws, the term of the parliament will be extended till the 1st of November 2013 if the parliamentary elections be held on the 21st of September 2013 and the second decision is to extend Barzani’s term for two more years where the constitution of Kurdistan Region will be amended during this period.”

A statement by the Kurdistani Regional Government received by IraqiNews.com cited “Barzani and the participants discussed these two decisions where he asked for their opinions regarding them.”

“The participants showed their opinions and suggestions in addition to discussing the issue of the constitution of Kurdistan Region and the political updates in Kurdistan Region,” the statement added.

“They have also discussed the expected visit of Barzani and the accompanying delegation to Baghdad,” the statement concluded.

MP, Mahdi Haji, of the Kurdistani Alliance revealed ‘The President of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, will visit Baghdad on next Sunday to discuss pending issues.”

He stated to IraqiNews.com “Barzani will visit Baghdad heading a governmental and political delegation from Kurdistan,” noting that “He will meet the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, during this important visit to discuss the pending issues especially between the Central Government and the Regional Government.”
