UN report on Iraq: conflict in Syria negatively affecting security in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The UN Secretary General, Baan Ki-moon stressed in his third report on Iraq that the continuing violence in Syria is negatively affecting the security and humanitarian situation in Iraq.

Ki-moon referred that what is so called the Islamic State of Iraq announced on 8th of past April its loyalty to the Qaeda and start to support the opposition in Syria, but he said it is still unclear whether the ISI really merged with Nusra Front to form the Qaeda in Iraq and Sham.

According to the report, the number of Syrian refugees registered in Iraq hit 159,196 on 12th of past June, and 153101 of them are in Kurdistan Region, the observers expected that the number of the refugees may increase to 350000 in the end of 2013.

The report mentioned that Domiz Camp in Kurdistan is crowded with the Syrian refugees where it shelters nearly 40000 refugees, despite its real capacity is 15000 refugees, however the report stressed that it is necessary to assign further lands to build additional camps in Kurdistan Region.
