69 persons killed, injured in attacks on Taji, Abu Ghraib prisons
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) 69 persons were killed and injured and some prisoners have been escaped when six suicide bombers detonated their bomb vests targeting Taji and Abu Ghraib prisons in Baghdad.
Security source told Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “Seven persons were killed while 31 others were injured in an armed attack targeted Abu Ghraib prison, 25 km to the west of Baghdad in last night, on other hand, five persons were killed and 25 were injured in Taji (Hout) prison, 20 km to the north of Baghdad,” noting “the deaths and injuries are from the gunmen, prisoners and the security forces.”
“The attacks were highly coordinated and happened simultaneously through shelling the two prisons with mortars, then six suicide bombers attacked the gates of the prisons, three for each, accompanied by heavy fire via light and medium rifles,” the source added.
“Some prisoners have been escaped during the attack from Abu Ghraib prison while no escape for prisoners occurred at Taji prison,” the source added noting “the security forces intensified its measures around the two prisons and launched raid in search for the escapees.” /.End/
