Fresh oil wells to be drilled in Missan

MISSAN / IraqiNews.com: Four areas are being prepared to drill new oil wells in the province of Missan, according to a source from the Missan Oil Company on Friday. “Technicians from the Missan Oil Company embarked on Friday (Feb. 13) on preparing three areas in al-Fakka, (60 km) west of al-Amara, and one in Abu Gharb oilfield, (100 km) east of al-Amara, to install equipment and start drilling new wells,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. Missan boasts six oil producer fields – al-Bazrakan, Abu Gharb, al-Fakka, al-Halfaya, al-Amara and al-Majnoon, which is a joint oilfield with the South Oil Company – and five explored non-producer fields – al-Huwayza, al-Rifaie, al-Rafidain al-Sharqi, al-Dujaila and Kemit. The current production capacity of these fields is 100,00-110,000 barrels per day (bpd). “The technicians also finalized 90% of the gas separation station in the Abu Nour oilfield, which has a production capacity of 6,000 bpd,” the source said, adding the station cost two billion Iraqi dinars ($1.700 million) as part of the 2008 appropriations to develop ministries. On June 24, 2008, the Iraqi cabinet had decided to turn the Missan oilfields into a public-sector company and disengage it from the South Oil Company.
