Pedestrian bridge built in Missan

MISSAN / IraqiNews.com: A local company finalized construction works on a pedestrian bridge over the River Tigris in central al-Amara city at a total cost of 820 million Iraqi dinars ($750,000) on Saturday, a local official in Missan said. “The bridge, which took three months’ work, is linking the eastern and western banks of the River Tigris in central Amara,” Mohammed Jasseb al-Nouri, the director of Missan’s roads & bridges department, told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The project’s costs were collected from a grant appropriated by the Iraqi government for the province during the Operation Bashaer al-Salam (Promise of Peace),” Nouri added. The Iraqi government has offered $100 million in an emergency grant for Missan during the enforcement of Operation Bashaer al-Salam by Iraqi forces in June 2008. Amara, the capital city of Missan, lies 390 km south of Baghdad. AmR (P)/SR 1
