Businessmen in Najaf discuss private sector problems

NAJAF / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi business council and the consumer protection society co-organized a conference on Saturday that brought together businessmen from to exchange views about the private sector and problems facing it, according to an official. “The Iraqi business council, which comprises more than 63 economic organizations and business associations, in tandem with the Iraqi society for defending consumers’ rights, adopted a draft at the level of three provinces: Anbar, Basra and Najaf,” the society chairperson, Mona al-Musawi, told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The project aims to draw officials’ attention to the demands of the private sector so that legislative and economic reforms are conducted to upgrade the private sector to play its role in the country’s reconstruction efforts,” she said. She noted that the required legislative reforms would include a law on competitiveness and anti-monopoly, a law on protection of the national products and anti-dumping and a law on corporations and investment. “The investment climate in Iraq, despite the security improvement, would need more efforts in order to attract foreign investors,” she added.
