UN Envoy encourages inclusive participation in Social Peace Initiative

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) UNAMI called upon all Iraqi political, social and religious leaders to participate in the Social Peace Conference hosted by the Vice-President of Iraq, Khudair al-Khuzayi, on Thursday.

A statement by UNAMI received by IraqiNews.com cited “On the eve of the National Conference for Social Peace, to be hosted by the Vice-President of Iraq Mr. Khudair Al Khuzayi, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Gyorgy Busztin, calls upon all Iraqi political, social and religious leaders to come forward and lend their support to the initiative.”

“The signing of the Code of Honor and the launching of the social initiative will create an enabling environment to reduce tensions and establish a cornerstone for national reconciliation and civil peace,” he said.

Mr. Busztin also urges Iraqi leaders to substantiate their commitment to reconciliation through concrete actions in the follow-up of this initiative, which includes a vow to renounce violence

“UNAMI stands ready to support the implementation of the initiative in working closely with its partners in the political process,” the statement concluded.
