AMS confirms governmental attempts to meet al-Dhari

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS) on Wednesday confirmed that there have been attempts made by the office of the Iraqi premier, Nouri al-Maliki, to meet the association’s secretary general, Sheikh Harith al-Dhari. “Maliki’s office denial of those attempts does not change anything of this reality,” the association said in a release received by IraqiNews.com news agency. The release mentioned in details three attempts in this regard. “Response of the Association’s secretary general to all those attempts was that the other side should execute what had been agreed upon through the two Cairo meetings in 2005 and 2006 before any meeting,” the release added. The Association of Muslim Scholars is a Sunni clergy that was formed in Apr. 14, 2003. It is well-known for its positions that oppose the ongoing political process in Iraq. MH (P)/SH 1
