Talabani urges European countries to support Iraq

Iraq-Talabani BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on Thursday called on the European Union to support Iraq on the political and economic level, a presidential statement said. This came during a meeting with a number of EU ambassadors to Iraq. “The president reviewed the political developments in Iraq, asserting the importance of strengthening Iraq’s ties throughout the globe, mainly with the EU,” said the statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “He called for EU countries to support the new Iraq on the political, economic and developmental level,” he added. “Talabani stressed that all political leaders in the country have the desire to widen and boost bilateral relations with the European countries,” the statement noted. “The EU diplomats reiterated their countries’ support of the political process and the democratic march in the country,” it said. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Burham Ahmed Saleh, Head of the Presidential Divan Nassier al-Aani, and Iraq’s Ambassador in Washington Samier al-Sameedai. SH (S)/SR 1
