Women get 9 seats in Wassit, 7 in Missan

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: The Wassit provincial council will have nine women out of its 28 seats, including four on Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Dawlat al-Qanoon (State of Law) list, a source from the province’s elections office said on Friday. “The nine women make one-third of the council’s new lineup,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. Meanwhile, a source from the Missan provincial council said women will occupy seven out of the council’s 27 seats in accordance with the final results of the local elections as announced by the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) on Thursday (Feb. 19). “Women in the old council’s lineup occupied 10 out of 41 seats,” Qassem Mohammed told IraqiNews.com news agency.
