Iraq, S. Korea sign MoU

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and his South Korean counterpart Lee Myung-Bak on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to foster bilateral ties, a source accompanying the president said. “The two presidents signed the memo at the South Korean presidential palace in Seoul on Tuesday (Feb. 24) to strengthen bilateral relations,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The MoU envisages developing ties in political and economic fields and long-term strategies,” he noted. Yesterday (Feb. 23), Iraqi President Jalal al-Talabani arrived in the South Korean capital on a visit that aims to foster mutual cooperation between the two countries. Talabani is leading a high-ranking delegation that included several ministers, parliamentarians and company directors. Talabani, 76, is the first Iraqi president to visit South Korea since mutual diplomatic relations were established in 1989. SH (P)/SR 1
