U.S. army detains photographer without legal grounds- JFO

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: U.S. forces in Iraq have been holding a photographer for six months without legal grounds, the Journalistic Freedoms Observatory (JFO) said. “The Journalistic Freedoms Observatory expresses its deep concern over the continuous detention of Ibrahim Jassam, a photographer, without any legal ground, especially after he was acquitted by the Central Criminal Court and was ordered to be released,” according to a statement released by the observatory and received by IraqiNews.com news agency. Jassam, a freelance photographer working for Reuters and other Iraqi media agencies, has been held in Camp Cropper near Baghdad International Airport since late September 2008, according to the JFO. Based in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the JFO is an independent organization that aims to defend journalists and to protect journalistic freedoms. SS (P) 1
