Mladenov attends Iraq Youth Conference for Social Peace

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Special Representative of the United Nations for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov, attended the Iraq Youth Conference for Social Peace held in Baghdad on last Saturday.

Mladenov said in his speech during the conference “Iraq Youth Conference for Social Peace is a needed reminder that young people coming together against terror can be a powerful force for good.”

A statement by UNAMI received by IraqiNews.com cited “The two-day conference organized by the Iraqi Friendship Network and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, under the auspices of the Office of the Vice-President, saw the participation of hundreds of youth from all of Iraq’s provinces, as well as of political, civil and social leaders, and representatives of the international community.”

“It aims to develop the role of youth in promoting social peace and cohesion. The conference resulted in identifying 20 recommendations on political, security, legal, social and other issues that affect youth specifically,” the statement added.

“It is of an utmost importance that recommendations made in today’s conference be implemented in reality, and that the Social Peace Initiative moves from the political path to truly influencing and leading to social peace in Iraq, through concrete actions which reflect the true desire of youth for peace, and their deeply rooted aspiration to live together in harmony in their homeland,” Mr. Mladenov concluded.
