Terrorist attack on Shiite pilgrims averted in Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The security forces killed a gunman holding grenades in an attempt to target the Shiite pilgrims, who are heading towards Karbala province to commemorate rituals of Arbaeen anniversary of Imam Hussein, in Latifiya area of southern Baghdad.

Baghdad Operations Command declared in a statement received by IraqiNews.com ”The security forces within Baghdad OC managed to arrest several wanted individuals according to the article (4) of Anti- Terrorism law while the Federal Police / Second Regiment arrested a person for possessing a pistol equipped by silencer in Jamaa neighborhood in Baghdad.”

”The forces of the Second Regiment 23rd Brigade dismantled three Improvised Explosive Devices in Sur area while the 17th Division forces succeeded in killing a terrorist was holding grenades that he intend to target the Shiite pilgrims in Latifiya area,” the statement added.”

The security forces of 2nd Regiment 44th Brigade seized a cache that contained ammunition, mortar shells and rockets in addition to dismantling an IED in Sadr Qanat area across Besaten area,” the statement pointed out.”

The security forces also discovered explosives and weapons in various areas in Baghdad within the last 24 hours,” the statement concluded.
