Armed clashes erupt in Anbar near Al Asad Airbase
Anbar, Ramadi (IraqiNews.com) Armed clashes erupted between the Army forces and gunmen to the west of Anbar.
Security source told Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) ”The army forces are clashing with gunmen near Al Asad Airbase in Baghdadi area of western Anbar province.”
The Aen Asad base is one of the biggest military bases in Iraq and it was used as a headquarter by the US troops, when they were still in Iraq, and the base was delivered for Iraqi forces after the US withdrawal from Iraq.
According to security source who reported to IraqiNews.com “The Deputy Chairman of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Abod Qanber, and the Commander of the Ground Forces, Lt. Gen. Ali Ghaidan, in cooperation with Anbar Police Commander, Hadi Razeij, launched a security campaign at areas located to the western of Anbar on the background of killing the Commander of the Seventh Division, Mohamed Ahmed Khalaf al-Karawi, in Rutba area.”
The Commander of the Seventh Division, Brigadier Mohamed Ahmed al-Karawi, was killed along with several of his soldiers while they were raiding a shelter filled with Improvised Explosive Devices that belongs to Qaeda organization, in Wadi Horan within Rutba area of western Anbar province.
