Mladenov congratulates Iraqis on 2014

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov congratulated the Iraqi People for the start of the new Year 2014, calling the political, religious and social sides to join a comprehensive dialogue and work for permanent peace.

A statement by the UN received by IraqiNews.com cited Tuesday “The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov expressed his congratulations for Iraqis on the Christmas Eve and the start of 2014, wishing them a new year full of peace and prosperity.”

He added “I call on all political leaders to abide by their commitments, including the ‘The National Honour Code’, and to immediately come together to discuss the serious challenges facing the country. As Iraq prepares for elections next year, all parties and coalitions should put forward their platforms for the future and remain fully engaged in the democratic political process”.

“The United Nations will continue to work with the Government and the people of Iraq to support democratic developments and stands ready to assist in facilitating dialogue,” Mladenov said.
