Electricity ministry demands Hyundai to send generators

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The electricity ministry has demanded South Korean ambassador to Iraq to ask Hyundai to send the power generators, which the ministry bought from the Korean company last June, the spokesman for the ministry said on Friday. “Electricity Minister Karim Wahied met with South Korean ambassador in Baghdad and his accompanying delegation on Thursday (Feb. 5),” Aziz Sultan told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The minister demanded the ambassador to ask the Korean company Hyundai to send the 12 new power generation units, the ministry bought from the Korean company last June,” he added. Last June, the Electricity Ministry signed a contract with the S. Korean Hyundai to provide Iraq with 12 new power generation units, each with a capacity of 30 Megawatts. “They will be distributed over selected areas in Baghdad and some Iraqi provinces, according to the demand,” he noted. He explained that the total value of the contract is $360 million. Baghdad and most of the Iraqi provinces suffer severe lack of electricity, a matter that makes people rely on private owned local generators. SH (S) 1
