Oil producing provinces demand parliament to refute 2014 budget law draft

Basra (IraqiNews.com) The Governors of the Oil Producing Provinces who held a conference in Basra province on Saturday demanded the Iraqi Parliament to refute the 2014 budget law draft and return it to the federal government to include the $5 petro-dollar item.

The final statement of the conference received by IraqiNews.com cited “The required sum of the $5 for each produced oil barrel or 150 cubic meter of gas represents only 5% of the export value of the barrel, but allocating this sum for the oil producing provinces will help in eliminating environmental damage as well as damage for agricultural lands and infrastructure in these provinces.”

“We demand the Parliament to refute the 2014 budget law draft and return it to the federal government to include the $ 5 petro-dollar proposal in the budget law draft and apply the 44th article of the provinces law No. 19 for 2013,” the statement added.

“The oil producing provinces call to apply Article 59 of the provinces law in order to treat petro-dollar allocation according to the way of allocating budget for Kurdistan Region mentioned in the 9/3 Article of the 2014 Federal Budget Law Draft,” the statement concluded.
