Police say 6 killed, 5 wounded in Basra blast

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Six persons, including a cop, were killed and five policemen were wounded in an explosive charge blast that occurred earlier today in southern Basra, according to a security source. “An improvised explosive device (IED) planted on Sinaiyat Hamdan road (5 km south of Basra city) targeted a motorcade of oil protection police vehicles, killing five sanitation workers and a policeman,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Five police personnel were wounded in the blast,” the source noted. Earlier today a local medic from Basra General Hospital said that it has received a corpse belonging to a policeman, in addition to six others belonging to sanitation workers. The Shiite city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P) 1
