U.S. forces kill gunman in Mosul

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: U.S. forces have killed one gunman and arrested five others during raids in southern Mosul, a media advisor for the forces said on Tuesday. “On Sunday evening, U.S. forces killed a gunman in Wadi Hajar area, southern Mosul, during a raid that targeted a suicide bombing cell,” the advisor told IraqiNews.com news agency. “In light of intelligence tips, the forces surrounded a house and ordered those inside to come out,” he explained. “One of the gunmen escaped over the roofs of adjoining houses, forcing U.S. forces to shoot him and kill him instantly,” he added. “Three other suicide bombers were arrested later,” the official pointed out, adding that two other members of al-Qaeda in Iraq were captured during a raid on another house. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. SS (P) 1
