Camp Liberty relocation discussed by Zebari – United Nations envoy

Zebari receives UNSG\Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Foreign Minister Mr. Hoshyar Zebari met on February 19, 2014, Ms. Jane Holl Lute, Special Adviser of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to relocate the residents of Camp Liberty outside Iraq, accompanied by Mr. Georgi Euston Deputy Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UNAMI) in Baghdad.

A statement by the Foreign Ministry received by IraqiNews.com cited “During the meeting, both sides reviewed the efforts of the United Nations through UNAMI to speed up the relocation of the residents of Camp Liberty outside Iraq, where Foreign Minister Zebari stressed support for all efforts in this area and providing all the facilities by the Iraqi government out of humanitarian duty,” noting that “The minister stressed the importance of speeding up and resolving this issue through the resettlement of camp residents in other host countries, and the importance of continuing communication and consultation with all parties to end this file.”

“Zebari also stressed that the government has fulfilled all its obligations towards the United Nations and recently made a financial contribution of half a million dollars to a trust fund proposed by the Secretary General of the United Nations to resettle the residents of the camp in a third country as the government’s stance on the issue of camp residents of the country,” the statement pointed out. “The meeting was attended by Foreign Ministry Undersecretary and Head of the Department of Organizations and director of the Office of the Minister,” the statement concluded.
