FM, Shamkhani review positive results regarding river borders

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hoshyar Zebari, met during his visit to Tehran Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by IraqiNews.com cited “Minister Zebari reviewed the discussions between the Iraqi and Iranian sides and the positive results regarding the river borders in Shatt Al Arab and the joint land and rivers borders, pointing to the political situation in Iraq and the approaching of the parliamentary elections by the end of April 2014, stressing the Iraqi government’s determination to fight terrorism and defeat it, praising the international and regional support to the Iraqi government in its battle to achieve security and stability,”

“For his part, Shamkhani reiterated Iran’s support for the political process in Iraq, calling on everyone to keep Iraq’s national and religious unity, and coordinating efforts by all politicians in Iraq in order to preserve the political process, develop it and face up to terrorism,” the statement added.

“The two sides also discussed international and regional issues including the Syrian crisis and the need to resolve it peacefully,” the statement concluded.
