Electricity ministry urges France to rehabilitate power sector

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: During the recent meeting of the Iraqi-French committee that took place late March 2009 in Paris, the Iraqi side urged its French counterpart to participate in rehabilitating its aged gas-driven power plants installed in Iraq, and to invest in the electricity sector by constructing thermal power stations. “The Iraqi delegation to the meeting was headed by the oil minister, Hussein al-Shahrestani,” said a release issued by the electricity ministry and received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The electricity sector in Iraq was mentioned in an additional item to the agreement signed between the two sides,” it added.
