Cabinet agrees to extend use of current Iraqi flag

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi cabinet on Sunday approved a draft law that allows an extended use of the current Iraqi flag. “The draft law will be referred to the Parliament in accordance with Articles 61 and 81, clauses I and II respectively, of the Iraqi constitution,” according to a statement made by an official government spokesperson, Ali al-Dabbagh, and received by IraqiNews.com news agency. On January 22, 2008, the Iraqi Parliament adopted a new, temporary national flag, which was scheduled to fly for only one year. The new flag was will red, white and black, but the three green stars representing unity, freedom and socialism, the motto of former President Saddam Hussein’s now outlawed Baath party, have been removed from the flag.
