Zaydi unanimously elected to chair Baghdad provincial council

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Baghdad’s provincial council on Wednesday unanimously elected Kamel al-Zaydi as its chairman, according to an informed source. “Zaydi, a Dawlat al-Qanoon (State of Law) Coalition member, was unanimously elected as a chairman, while Thamir Riyad al-Addad was elected as vice-chairman,” the head of the coalition, Salah Abdulraziq, told IraqiNews.com news agency. Abdulraziq said that his coalition, which has 28 seats in the 57-member council, is ready to cooperate with all winners to render the council more effective and to improve the situation of services in the capital Baghdad. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Dawlat al-Qanoon Coalition gained the largest number of votes in Baghdad in the provincial council elections that took place in late January 2009. SS (P) /SR 4
