Iraq to form committee for nuclear energy

Iraq-IAEA BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi government said on Thursday that it ordered the formation of a national committee for nuclear energy, said a statement from the office of the Iraqi government’s official spokesman Ali al-Dabagh. “The Iraqi council of ministers accepted a proposal by the Iraqi ministry of science and technology. This national committee or organization will be tasked with cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or other related organizations in establishing related monitory boards of granting licenses of launching nuclear stations,” al-Dabagh said in the statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an international organization that seeks to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to inhibit its use for military purposes. Though established independently of the United Nations under its own international treaty (the IAEA Statute), the IAEA reports to both the General Assembly and the Security Council. SH (P)/SR 1
