Karbala governor assumes duty after republican decree issued

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: The new governor of Karbala assumed responsibility after a republican decree was issued, according to the provincial council’s relations committee chief on Sunday. “The new governor of Karbala, Engineer Amaleddin Majeed Hameed Kadhem, assumed the duties of his new post. Karbala is thus the first Iraqi province where the work of the local administration is regularized,” Oqeil al-Khazaali told IraqiNews.com news agency. Earlier on Sunday, the Iraqi Presidential Board (PB) issued a republican decree appointing Kadhem as the new governor of Karbala. “The two deputy governors have also assumed their responsibilities in the province,” Khazaali added. Kadhem belongs to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Dawlat al-Qanoon (State of Law), while the first deputy governor Abbas al-Musawi belongs to Amal al-Rafidain list and the second deputy governor Youssef al-Habboubi is independent. The holy Shiite city of Karbala lies 110 km southwest of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (P)/SR 1
