Parl. meets to vote on Iraq-Turkey agreement

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi parliament held a session under Speaker Iyad al-Samarraie on Saturday to vote on a comprehensive Iraqi-Turkish agreement. “The session began debating the agreement as well as the first reading of draft laws by the industry & minerals ministry, residence of foreigners and repealing para B of Article 136 of the law 23/1971 on penal trials,” according to the session’s agenda as received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The session also includes the second reading of two draft laws on ratifying an agreement between Iraq and the UN pertaining to the international organization mission’s activities to offer help to Iraq and repealing decree 25/2003 by the dissolved Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) on the confiscation of property used in perpetrating certain crimes and their proceeds,” read the agenda. The CPA was established as a transitional government following the invasion of Iraq by the United States, United Kingdom and the other members of the Multinational force in Iraq which was formed to oust the government of Saddam Hussein in 2003. Citing UN Security Council Resolution 1483 (2003), and the laws of war, the CPA vested itself with executive, legislative and judicial authority over the Iraqi government from the period of the CPA’s inception on April 21, 2003, until its dissolution on June 28, 2004. “Also, the session includes the second reading of decree 340 of the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council and the second reading of a draft law on the first amendment of law 27/2008 on salaries of judges and members of the public prosecution,” it added.
