Foreign Minister meets UN Secretary General, & number of officials

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Al Jaafari, met ministers of foreign affairs of Syria, Japan, South Korea, China, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by Iraqi News cited “Dr. Jaafari stressed that the threat of the Islamic State (IS) threatens all countries of the world and that there is universal awareness that what is happening in Iraq is a humanitarian catastrophe and will not stop, and that it will not be limited to Iraq but would extend to the countries of the region and the world, especially that the IS members come from diverse backgrounds, including Europe and America.”

“He stressed that Iraq did not ask to involve ground troops, emphasizing that sovereignty of Iraq should be taken into account and to focus on logistic support and air support which should not turn to the army bases,” the statement added.

“Dr. Jaafari attended earlier a meeting of the President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Fuad Masum, with the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, and U.S. Vice President, Joseph Biden,” the statement concluded. /End
