Abadi to visit Iran soon

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi will visit Iran soon on his first official visit to a foreign country since he took office on August 11.

The Iranian Republic News Agency (IRNA) cited Friday that the trip will take place in the near future.

Al-Abaid’s visit to Iran is considered as significant regarding the major role played by Tehran in the past months to help Baghdad fight against the terrorist group of Daesh (ISIL), IRNA added.

IRNA mentioned that the Iraqi prime minister had earlier appreciated Iran’s constructive role in the present sensitive juncture of Iraq’s history while he was speaking to reporters in New York last week on the sidelines of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly.

Also during a recent meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Baghdad, Al-Abadi described Iran’s support for the Iraqi government and nation in anti-ISIL fighting as important, fundamental and admirable, IRNA concluded. /End/
