Diyala (IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday according to a local source in Diyala province the so-called the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) used captives from more than 30 families as human shields in the district of Mansuriya to stop the advancement of security forces towards ISIS strongholds.

The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com “the available security information confirms that ISIS transferred about 30 detained families from the residents of villages 9 km northeast of Mansuriya and 40 km east of Baquba to areas close to the front lines with security forces and the tribal forces in order to use them as human shields”, noting that “the goal was to stop the progress of the security forces towards its strongholds.”

The source who asked not to be named said: “Many of the families that have succeeded in escaping from the grip of ISIS villages near Baquba talked about the horrible crimes committed by the organization against innocent people. They tried to impose alien ideas on people, in addition to the oppression on the relatives of the tribes which rebelled against them.”
