URGENT: ISIS flogs 20 people for not attending Friday prayers near Baquba
Baquba (IrqiNews.com) On Saturday a security source in Diyala province said that the so-called the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria flogged 20 people who failed to attend Friday prayers yesterday in northeast of Baquba (55 km northeast of Baghdad) with 25 lashes.
The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com that “this morning the elements of the organization ISIS flogged 20 people who failed to perform Friday prayers yesterday in one of the public squares in the area of Jalawla, Khanaqin district (110 km north-east Baquba) with 25 lashes for each person.”
The source, who asked not to be named, said that “the so-called Sharia court of the Islamic State in Jalawla issued a new resolution which includes the imposition of a penalty of 25 lashes on each civilian who refuses to attend Friday prayers amid warnings of harsher penalties in the coming period.”
The source added that “the organization is trying to exploit the presence of civilians in mosques as human shields to prevent air strikes on its gatherings,” noting that “the organization has become confused and worried because of repeated operations targeting its secret positions accurately recently.”
