20% to 30% of Iraqi territories under ISIS control, says British Foreign Minister
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) On Thursday, the British Foreign Minister Philip Hammond said that the ISIS group has gained control over 20% to 30% of Iraqi territories.
In a statement obtained by IraqiNews, Hammond confirmed that 20% to 30% of Iraqi territories could be under ISIS control, adding that liberating this territories, which is mostly located in northern Iraq could take for years, not days and weeks. “Liberating this territory from ISIL is a medium-term challenge to be measured in months and years. The horrific effects of ISIS on governance and the social fabric will be felt for even longer.” said Hammond.
Hammond has said earlier this week that Britain will provide air support, training and intelligence to the Iraqi army, noting British troops on the ground is a step that will only serve ISIS goals.
