URGENT: Iraqi Army resumes offensive on the geo-strategic city of Baiji

Baiji (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army forces backed by tribal and militia fighters continued to advance on the geo-strategic city of Baiji after having taken control of key building and facilities earlier today according to eye-witness accounts. During the advance four government soldiers were killed by a rocket propelled grenade.

Security sources mentioned that Iraqi forces have killed 71 ISIS fighters during the past 24 hours.

The correspondent of IraqiNews.com said “Iraqi government forces entered the town of Baiji from 3 axis, namely the industrial and the military districts as well as the neighborhood located to south of the city, where the Iraqi flag raised on Mqamih building.

The Iraqi army has not yet aired pictures of the Baiji refinery, which was dominated by the militants ISIS for more than four months. Regaining full control of Baiji may pave the way for Iraqi forces to launch a military operation to liberate the city of Tikrit.
