Iraqi Army must prove ability to defeat ISIS on the ground says France’s President

Ottawa, Canada (IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday, France’s President François Hollande called the Iraqi Army to spend much effort on the ground in order to prove its ability to defeat the ISIS group.

Hollande said in a press conference in Ottawa, Canada: “The Iraqi Army needs to spend much more effort on the ground in order to prove its ability to fight and defeat the ISIS group. The US-led air strikes aren’t enough to defeat the group unless were accompanied by advance movement on the ground.”

Hollande said, “So far the Peshmerga fighters managed to liberate large expanses of land; however, the Iraqi Army couldn’t yet do the same.”

Noteworthy, Hollande announced last September that France’s government will participate in the US-led military operations against the ISIS group in Iraq and Syria without sending any ground troops.
