Death or injury of ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi unconfirmed by US Central Command

(IraqiNews.com) US Central Command declared that the international coalition, on Friday evening, launched a series of air strikes targeting the leaders of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) who were gathering near the city of Mosul. US officials could not confirm that the ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was among them.
On Saturday evening, TV channels and news agencies quoted the Iraqi security sources‘ news about al-Baghdadi’s injury and even death in these raids, but US officials were unable to confirm his presence at the gathering.
American leadership in the Middle East and Central Asia said in a statement followed by IraqiNews.com that “the alliance launched air strikes on the gathering of ISIS leaders near Mosul.”
The spokesman for the Central Command, Patrick Reeder said in a statement, “The leadership cannot confirm whether the ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was among the participants in this meeting,” adding that “The army has its reasons to believe that there were a number of ISIS leaders in the convoy, but it was not clear whether Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was there or not.”
The US air raids destroyed a convoy of 10 cars affiliated with ISIS which were traveling in a convoy near the Iraqi city of Mosul, according to US officials.
