Turkey to release additional water share in June

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Turkey is set to release the first part of the increase in water shares by June 10, 2009, the Iraqi irrigation minister said in a release on Monday. “There will be is 130 cubic meters per second released into the Euphrates River,” Dr. Abdillateef Jamal Rasheed said in the release received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The increase will bring a limited improvement in water quality coming across the border,” he said. “It would also assist in the summer season’s agriculture,” he added. Lands that will be planted with rice in this year, 2009, will be 50 percent of those of 2008, according to the release. MH (P)/SR 1
