New farmers’ market opens in Babel

BABEL / IraqiNews.com: Al-Furat Al-Awsat farmers’ market, set up under the aegis of the U.S. Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) at a total cost of $3.2 million, was opened Saturday at Mwelha area, northern Babel. “The project aims at offering an opportunity to farmers to sell their products,” the PRT’s public relations director told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The market consists of 20 internal and 24 external booths,” he said, adding the booths will be rented to farmers through auction. “Revenues will be used to operate and maintain the market itself,” he noted.
