Increase in marketing wheat, barely in Muthanna despite water scarcity

MUTHANNA / IraqiNews.com: A total of 15,000 tons of wheat and barley have been marketed by farmers in Muthanna during this agricultural season, compared to only 6,000 tons last year, the director of the Iraq Grain Trading Company branch in Muthanna said Friday. “The stores or the Iraq Grain Trading Company in Saylo has received until Thursday (June 18) 15,000 tons wheat and barley, including 6,000 tons of wheat and 9,000 of barley within the 2009 winter agricultural season,” Maytham Sakr al-Shaher told IraqiNews.com news agency. “This amount is more than what had been marketed in 2008 which reached 6,000 tons,” he noted.
