Official opening of Nassiriya oilfield next Thursday

THI-QAR / IraqiNews.com: The official opening of the Nassiriya oilfield will be held next Thursday, an oil source from Thi-Qar said Friday. “Oil Minister Hussein al-Shahrestani will attend the ceremony next Thursday (June 25),” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. For his part, the head of the energy department of the Thi-Qar council, Hussein al-Awad, said that “we seek to develop oilfields in the near future to produce nearly 300 barrels per day.” “Nassiriya will be one of the oil producing provinces and the production capacity of the oilfield in northwest of Nassiriya will be 15,000 barrels per day in the first stage,” the director of the operations in the South Oil company, Diyaa Jaafar, told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The field consists of five wells and hopefully we could pump between 10,000 to 15,000 barrels per day in the first stage and to increase this amount in the second stage,” he added.
