Washington and Kuwait to provide Iraq with 61 Abrams tanks, 300 armored vehicles
(IraqiNews.com) On Saturday, the Parliamentary Committee of Security and Defense announced that Washington and Kuwait are to provide Iraq with 61 Abrams tanks and 300 armored vehicles, stressing that the shipment will arrive in the country next year.
Committee member Majid Ghraoui said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “U.S. will provide Iraq with 61 Abrams tanks in the military agreement signed earlier between Baghdad and Washington.”
Ghraoui added, “The Kuwaiti government has provided Iraq with 300 armored personnel vehicles as a gift to strengthen the position of the security forces to face the gangs of ISIS,” noting that, “The American tanks and the armored vehicles will arrive in Iraq early next year.”
U.S. news sites revealed on Saturday that Washington withdrew 3100 armored vehicle anti-mines from Afghanistan and stored them in Kuwait, indicating that there is a decision to ship parts of the equipments to Iraq to face ISIS without specifying the quantity.
Noteworthy, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi stressed, during his visit to Kuwait on December 21, 2014, that Iraq is on the verge of freeing all the territory from ISIS, while noting that the development of Iraq is in need of cooperation and support from countries of the region.
