Five imams killed, injured in armed attack west of Basra
(IraqiNews.com) On Thursday night, the Security Committee in the Council of Zubair in Basra province announced, that three of the imams were killed, and two others were injured in an armed attack carried out by unknown assailants at the entrance to the district, west of province.
The Chairman of the Committee Mahdi Rican Khaqani said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “Unidentified gunmen opened fire extensively on a car was carrying clerics as it passed near the entrance of the district”, noting that, “Imam of al-Zubayr mosque, Imam of Ohaly mosque and a cleric were killed immediately, while Imams of Thukair and Al Mazroua mosques were injured.”
Chairman of the Committee pointed out, “Security forces rushed to open an investigation about the attack. Also, it intensified the security measures in the district.”
