Rail track to connect Iran to Iraq soon

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Managing Director of Iran Railway Company Mohsen Pour Seyed Aghaie said on Wednesday that the last phase of laying of rail tracks connecting Iran to Iraq at Shalamche border finalized.

After accomplishment of the project, the Iranian pilgrims can travel to Karbala at all religious occasions including Arbaeen.

Speaking to reporters, he said laying of the rail track and construction of a 30 kilometer long bridge over Arvand river are among significant activities of the rail road company.

The current volume for exchange of passengers and cargo through the railway is about 35 million tons per year which is to be increased by 198 million tons per year.

The number of passengers from 26 million should be increased to 58 million per year which will be regarded as a turning point in the sector, he said. /End/
