Mosul car bomb leaves 34 wounded

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Thirty-four people were wounded Sunday’s earlier car bomb blast in central Mosul, a Ninewa police source said. “A car rigged with explosives driven by a suicide bomber went off near the Youths & Sports Department in central Mosul. The explosion, which targeted a U.S. army patrol, left 34 persons wounded,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Fifteen nearby car repair stores, as well as several vehicles, were damaged in the attack,” the source added. According to IraqiNews.com’s correspondent at the scene of the blast, the explosion left a crater three meters wide in the street. Eyewitnesses in the area said none of the U.S. patrolmen were harmed, adding the U.S. forces cordoned off the site. Earlier, a police source in Ninewa said a car bomb went off near a U.S. patrol in central Mosul city, reportedly leaving an unidentified number of casualties. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.   AmR (P)/SR 1
