Registering Kurdistan’s elections candidates begins Wednesday – official

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: Registering the candidates of the political blocs for the parliamentary elections in Kurdistan region will start on Wednesday (May 6) and run until (May 15), the official from the Arbil office of the Independent High Electoral Commission said on Monday. “The electoral campaign of all political blocs will begin on of May 22 until July 23 and will stop 48 hours before the elections,” Hindren Mohamed told IraqiNews.com news agency. The President of Iraq’s Kurdistan Massoud al-Barazani had set July 25 as the date for parliamentary elections in the region. “I call on everyone to respect the political diversity and urge the people of Kurdistan to widely participate in the elections…,” Barazani said in a speech before the Parliament today. The president also called on government institutions to cooperate with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) to “render the electoral process a success.” Parliamentary polls in autonomous region were scheduled to be held on May 19, but were postponed due to the Parliament’s endorsement of the amended law on elections.
